Following the call for projects launched last December 13th, nearly 600 European mobility startups have signed up to try to win the 2nd edition of the European Startup prize for mobility.
The first phase of selection has come to an end and allowed to determine the 150 selected for the rest of the competition. Each of the 600 startups was evaluated by 3 independent European experts on economic, innovation and ecological criteria.
The 150 pre-selected must now submit a complementary application that will allow to separate them.
Thus, on February 25, the 50 best candidates will be announced, submitted for the first time this year to a pan-European public vote, to designate one of the 10 winners of this edition.
At stake, an all-expenses paid European tour of 5 major technology hubs for 10 startups and 2 months of mentoring with the Boston Consulting Group and law firms for the top four of them.
This 2nd edition of the European Prize is a strong marker of the dynamism of the mobility market in Europe.
There is a clear progression in the maturity of candidate startups, both in terms of organization (58% have more than 3 years of existence vs 47% in 2018, 14 employees on average vs 9 in 2018), than business ( 85% have already raised funds vs. 75% in 2018, 75% of startups have paying customers vs 25% in 2018).
This can be explained in part by the structuring and professionalisation of the mobility ecosystem in Europe (corporates, accelerators, territories, VCs), favoring the support of startups and the acceleration of their growth. We have had the pleasure of seeing this by federating and animating the community of 50 European prize evaluators.
