La Ruche à Vélos – which offers an innovative, secure and automated bicycle parking solution for urban spaces – joined the Moove Lab’s 7th batch last April – the mobility & autotech focused accelerator program, co-founded by the CNPA and Via ID.

La Ruche à vélos: park in peace

Founded in 2019 by Guillaume Chaumet, Antoine Cochou & Maël Beyssat – as a result of a business creation class during their studies at ICAM (Institut Catholique d’Arts et Métiers) in Nantes –  La Ruche à Vélos produces secure and automated bicycle parking.

How does it work?

Thanks to their “ruche” and a mobile application, the vehicle drop-off and pick-up are simple: the user drops his / her bike at the parking entrance and it will be stored in a private area.

Inside the parking lot, you also have the possibility  to recharge electric bicycles batteries and to park 24 scooters in secure lockers.

How did they get the idea?

“The 3 of us were students at ICAM and had the idea during a business creation project. We all ride bikes, so we naturally thought about bicycles and more specifically about the obvious problem of secure bike parking. We then thought of automating the parking and preventing access to the storage area.” Explains Guillaume Chaumet.

A “hive” looking for challenge and sharing

By joining the Moove Lab, the startup wishes to challenge its project, its global strategy and the marketing of its service:

“We wanted a support focused on mobilities and the Moove Lab is known in the sector. It’s also the opportunity to have access to a network that is project-related, to share with the program’s alumni, partners and 7th batch startups.”

Guillaume Chaumet, Co-founder La Ruche à Vélos.

The startup, which produces its parking lots through a subcontractor in Vendée, has sold its first 10 spaces hive to the city of Angers, which will be set up by the end of July 2021. A second parking lot is under construction for the western metropolis.

La Ruche à Vélos’ next steps:

1

The design of a parking lot with a larger capacity: 62 spaces.

2

The release of their complementary application and their management tool: 2 IT tools to help cities manage bike parking.

3

And the finalization of their fundraising.
